Biography

Rachel was born on 10 Apr 1706, in Wallingford in the Connecticut Colony. She was the daughter of Deacon Timothy Tuttle and Thankful Doolittle.[1]

Rachel was married to Nathan Tyler on 25 Jun 1730, by Mr. Hall in Wallingford.[2]

Rachel and Nathan registered six children in Wallingford:

Rachel (Tuttle) Tyler died in Wallingford on 25 Nov 1749.[6]

Research Note

Rachel's birth date (10 Apr 1706) presents a minor problem, since her parents' marriage date was 2 Nov 1706. Although this is certainly possible, it is far more likely that Thankful was pregnant when the marriage took place. There may be an error in the transcription of the marriage date, mistaking a "5" for a "6," or possibly a clerical error in the original entry. The citation of the original source is vol. 2, p. 0 (Land Records).[7] Alternatively, Rachel may have been born in April of 1707, as appeared in Doolittle, Doolittle Family in America,[8] but this reference appears without a source or explanation. Unless documentation for this later birth date can be located, the 1706 date should stand. The citation of the original source in the Wallingford VR is to vol. 2, p. 793 (Land Records).
