Biography

Name

Our current research could not find any valid document to record her last name at birth, so it remains unknown.

Birth

The clerk made an account of Valentine Hollingsworth's family history in the book of Lurgan Quaker Meeting. It says, "Vallantine Hollingsworth... tooke to wife Ann the daughter of Nicholass Ree: of Tanragee in the County of Ardmagh aforesd. and of Ann his wife who was borne in Tanragee aforesaid about the year 1628."[1]

Our research is not certain if this statement "who was borne in Tanragee aforesaid about the year 1628" refers either to Ann Ree, the wife of Valentine Hollingsworth or Ann, the wife of Nicholas Ree. The use of "who" in the grammar syntax of English language seems to suggest the year 1628 was Ann's daughter, Ann Ree's birth date rather than Ann's birth date. The use of "who" in the statement was unusual at that time.

However, no document has been found for her birth or baptism in Tanderagee. It remains unproven, but our research treats the book of Lurgan Quaker Meeting as secondary source for her birthplace.

Parentage

There is no document to prove her parentage.

The Ancestry family tree online claims that she was the daughter of Thomas de Tandragee and Grace Cook and was born about 1600 in Tanderagee, Armagh, Ireland.[2] However, it contains no source. It cannot be used for the fact for our research.

However, it seems to fail to cite from the journal, Hollingsworth Register, No. 1 – Volume 1, Issue 1, 1965 April on page 8. It says, "Vallantine Hollingsworth... tooke to wife Ann the daughter of Nicholass Ree: of Tanragee in the County of Ardmagh aforesd. and of Ann his wife who was borne in Tanragee aforesaid about the year 1628." It was based on clerk's account of Valentine Hollingsworth's family on one page of the pages in the book of Lurgan Quaker Meeting.

Our research notes that her parentage was not recorded in the book, so her parentage remains unknown.

Marriage

Nicholas Ree married Ann on an unknown date. The couple had one child as follows:

  1. Ann Ree (abt. 1627).

Death

Ann died at the age of about 103 before 1703. However, there is no record of her death.

Research Notes

Our research has not been able to find any records showing the birth, marriage, or death dates for Ann.

De Tanderagee-1 and Unknown-454354 appear to represent the same person because: Same DOB, DOD, same spouse, same child. This is one of a series of duplicate profiles on WT that use the alternative spellings "Ree" and "Rae". For consistency, I am proposing these be merged using the spelling "Ree" (which is slightly more common in the Quaker records). However, in each profile I recommend that the alternate spelling "Rae" also be displayed.
