Fred's birth was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1866 in the Honiton district.[1] He was baptised Fred Hooke, son of Nicholas John & Matilda Sarah Uglow on the 17 January 1866 in Sidmouth, Devon, England.[2]
In the 1871 census Fred (recorded as age 3) was the son of Nicholas J Uglow in Sidmouth, Devon, England.[3].
By the 1881 census Fred (age 15) was recorded as unmarried and living away from home on the High Street, Honiton, Devon, England.[4]
Fred departed from England on 18 November 1890 bound for Natal, Africa[5]. Frederick died on 10 February 1892. By now he was a farmer in the Griqualand East Cape colony in Africa still in Africa, and his estate passed probate on 14 July 1892 in United Kingdom. The executors were His father Nicholas John Uglow and William Trump[6]
