Biography

Susanna was probably born in Frederick Co. MD, where her father Daniel bought land in the Conococheague valley from his father (or possibly brother) Stephen Ulrich Jr in 1754. Around 1771 she married John Deeter (abt 1745-1790), the son of her neighbor Hans Dieterich (John Teeter). They had nine children and probably lived on the Teeter homestead until the mid-1780s, when the family moved to Bedford Co. PA.

Susanna's husband John died in 1790, leaving her with several small children to raise. She may be the (widow) Hanah Teter who is reported in the 1790 U.S. Census living in Bedford Co. with four males under 16 and five other females (this is exactly the right count of Susanna's children). Susannah Teeter (incorrectly indexed by Family Search as "Tetter") appears in the 1800 Census, age over 45 y.o., living in Bedford Co. with 2 M under 10, 1 M 10-16, 2 M 16-26, 2 F 10-16, and 1 F 16-26. At this time most of her sons (ages 24, 22, 20, and 11) were still unmarried, as were at least two daughters (15 and 13); her daughter Elizabeth (26) was already a widow with two small sons.

Susanna evidently never remarried, and died around 1804. Her burial has not been located.
