Biography

The surname Salle has not been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Some researches claim Elizabeth Salle born about 1760 (based on the birth of her oldest child in 1780) married Richard Keesee.[1]No evidence or documentary proof has been found.

Another group of researchers believe the surname "Salle" was actually her given name "Sallie". This was published in 1973 by author William C. Kozee who wrote Richard Keesee married about 1784 Sallie, family name not known. [2] [3] The approximate ages of her children suggest the marriage was a few years earlier, about 1780.

Her death date cannot be confirmed. Census records in Floyd County, Kentucky for 1810 (Richard Kezee) [3] and 1820 (Richard Keezee) [4] show there was a female age 45 and over in the household. The 1830 census for Lawrence County, Kentucky for the household of Richard Cazee enumerates a female in the age group 70-79. [5] The woman shown consistently in Richard's household in these census would appear to be in the proper age group to be Richard's wife, Sallie. The 1840 census Lawrence County, Kentucky for R. Kezee (age 80-90) shows no female in the age group for Sallie so it is assumed she died prior to 1840. [6]

I suspect that Elizabeth Salle (Sallee) is descended from the Huguenot Salle/Sallee family of Goochland, Virginia. I also believe that she and her husband, Richard Keezee , was also born in Goochland since he is a Huguenot descendant of Jacques La Caze.

Fran--thanks for doing the merge. I cleaned up the profile and added the few meagre sources there are for Sallie. Maybe something new will turn up one of these days.

Sallie-16 and Unknown-318891 appear to represent the same person because: Message from Connie Graves: Sallie-16 is the same as Unknown-318891. Both are named Sallie. The birth and death dates do not match but I think we are talking about the same person. Sallie does not have any documented proof for her birth or death dates. They have been estimated. Both have the same husband and children. I propose these profiles should be merged.
