Biography

"There is no genealogical proof that Rachel Unknown McKinney was a child of Shadrack Inman and his wife, Mary Jane McPheeters which has been repeatedly alleged in error by researchers on Ancestry.com Family Trees..."(see below).

Research Notes

Disputed Parentage

"There is no genealogical proof that Rachel Inman was a child of Shadrack Inman and his wife, Mary Jane McPheeters which has been repeatedly alleged in error by researchers on Ancestry.com Family Trees. The Rachel Inman above has been confused with another Rachel Inman born 1780 who married Truman Childon and a Robinson. This is not the same person as Rachel Inman who married Charles McKinney and is buried with him in the McKinney cemetery."[1]

Who were the parents of Rachel Inman McKinney remains and open question. There were many Inmans in Burke County circa 1775 but none who can be identifed as her parents.

The Find A Grave: Memorial #95711881 repeats the unsubstantiated connection to the Inman family which is mentioned above.

As well does this source, "Rachel Inman - Old Buncombe County Heritage, I & II Publication, Old Buncombe County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 2122, Asheville, North Carolina 28802, 1981 & 1987."

Rachel was born about 1779. She passed away about 1827. [2]

Inman-2219 and Unknown-390477 appear to represent the same person because: MErging these duplicates - the LNAB is unknown but has been propagated in online trees as Inman. This has been researched in depth by John Dillard and is discussed in depth in his published works. Thanks very much, I should have merged this into Unknown LNAB a long time ago. Mags

Kelly? Do you have anything in your Family information that points to her last name being Inman? There is a note from John M. Dillard (Respected Dillard Researcher) about her name - "There is no genealogical proof that Rachel Inman was a child of Shadrack Inman and his wife, Mary Jane McPheeters which has been repeatedly alleged in error by researchers on Ancestry.com Family Trees. The Rachel Inman above has been confused with another Rachel Inman born 1780 who married Truman Childon and a Robinson. This is not the same person as Rachel Inman who married Charles McKinney and is buried with him in the McKinney cemetery.

Who were the parents of Rachel Inman McKinney remains an open question. There were many Inmans in Burke County circa 1775 but none who can be identified as her parents."
