Disputed Parents and Surname

It was suggested that Joane might be the daughter of Thomas Cooke and wife Joanne. Indeed Thomas by his first wife had a daughter Joann but she was born and buried in the same year 1596.^[1]

Biography

Estimating from the birth of her children, Joanna aka Joan ____ was born say 1622. She married Giles Slocum say 1641, estimating from the same fact.

She was called Joanna in the Friends record of the birth of her children.^[2] She was called Joan on her death record.

Joan and Giles were Quakers.^[3] Joan, wife of Giles, was excommunicated from the Baptist Church at Newport 16:3:1673. Giles was excommunicated 23:8:1673, at which point they joined the Quakers.^[4]
