No historical support. According to Walter Goodwin Davis (1963), the earliest proven ancestry for this line begins with Edward Gilman (abt.1525-bef.1573). See Walter Goodwin Davis, The ancestry of Abel Lunt, 1769-1806, of Newbury, Massachusetts (Portland, Me. : Anthoensen Press, 1963), 153-160 (Gilman, of Exeter) at 153; digital images, Hathi Trust.
Other WikiTree collaborators have also found no support. From Downey-1809: "Searched familysearch.org in Mar 2019 based on husband and son's names but didn't find anything." From the profile of the linked spouse, "There is no support for this Edward Gilman in Gilman, 1864, Gillman, 1895, Ames, 1950, or Scott, 2000."
Years ago, various Gilman WikiTree profiles were posted to WikiTree based on a few Internet family files that were not sourced or were poorly sourced. This information found its way to one or more "Pedigree Resource" files at FamilySearch. It was in reliance of these various family files that the original profiles about Edward Gilman born 1500 and his wife were created.
Of Edward (married Rose Rysse) in "The Morris Clan," "Source 6 says he was the son of Edward GILMAN [F60432] of Caston, Norfolk, England; but this is the only source I have seen so far that names a father for him." The reference, "Source 6" is an unsourced entry in yet another family file, "Holmes/Hobbies," reporting only that the Edward Gilman of Caston, born 1500, was the father of Edward born 1525.
