Research Notes

Disputed Surname: Her surname is currently unknown. Not Hoyt. Not Foster. No records have been found in New England, giving her a surname or relationships to persons other than her husband.

The source for Alice's maiden name appears to be User contributed IGI: Alice Foster, or Alice Hoyt, married 1636 to William Crocker (born 1608).

There was also an Alice Hoyt Crocker who married Jacob Penoyer on March 27, 1794 in Lee MA; but that seems a little far removed for a namesake. "Deacon William Crocker and his wife Alice Hoyt" certainly appear in many family histories online, but I'm not finding a contemporary source. Powell-5629 11:42, 11 January 2015 (EST)

Josephine Frost reports no record of Alice's maiden name.[1] Torrey's New England Marriages, drawn from several sources, found no maiden name in those sources.[4]

I am fairly certain that William was the Goodman who joined the church. There is probably no relationship to Foster. But the juxtaposition of their names in the register might cause people to jump to the conclusion that she was his wife to be.

Do we know that William is the Goodman Crocker referenced? How is Goody Foster related?

There seem to be no sources for he maiden name. Objections to changing to Unknown?

I have not been able to find any definitive proof of Alice Crocker's maiden name. In all the original records I have found she is simply identified as "Alice ____". I do not understand where the name "Alice Foster Hoyt" came from.

Hi Andrea, I was more asking for the Volume and Page (have searched NEHGS for both Hoyt and Crocker, without results) must just be missing it. Thank you, though!

What is the Great Migration citation for Alice?

UNKNOWN-142716 and Hoyt-476 appear to represent the same person because: Anderson (Great Migration Begins) confirms her surname was Hoyt.
