Biography

Anna was born about 1694 in Katzback, Canton of Bern, Switzerland. She married Hartman Hunsaker in Switzerland about 1712. In 1728, "it is reported that the Swiss government, which was the Rominish Church, confiscated all Mennonite land and jailed and deported all suspected Mennonites." Hartman was one of those jailed and then deported with his family. At least two children were born in Wiesbaden, Germany, where the family went before seeking refuge in America. They arrived in Pennsylvania on 10 Sep 1731 aboard the ship "Pennsylvania Merchant" from Rotterdam. Anna died 1738 in Manheim Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.[1]

DNA

DNA Update Dec 10, 2022 email from Pat Harris to Connie Graves. Our common ancestor is Anna Stirtz, widow of Hartman Hunsaker. We match all the Hunsakers because Hartman Hunsaker died in 1733 and Anna Stirtz Hunsaker remarried to my relative Johann Jacob Gochnauer, various spellings. They had one daughter, Magdalene Gohnauer who married Abraham Welty. We descend down the Welty tree and have numerous cross matches with all these related matches. DNA confirmed on GEDmatch by a match for T070541 (*K. Mason) the sister of T948143 (Patricia C Mason) who has a match going through Daniel Hendricks, b 1746 who married Mary Roland daughter of Gaspar Roland. Daniel was a brother to John Hendricks (ancestor of Connie Graves) Gedmatch comparison T402351 (Connie Graves) and T948143 (Patricia C Mason), 39.4 cM ,largest segment = 4.1 cM; as well as for her three sibs and first cousin, T048732 (Michael John Mason) 20.9 cM, 5.5 cM; T528966 (David G.
