John was born to David and Mary Vaughan in about 1671, likely at Portsmouth, Rhode Island.[1] (His father David's will written 1677 refers to his son John as under 21 years old.[Griffin, p.8-9[1]])
He married Elizabeth Bull there on November 24, 1698,[2][3] and they had at least seven children together.[1]
John was admitted a freeman in Portsmouth in 1692 where he lived until about 1720 when he moved to Kings Towne, Rhode Island. He died there sometime before September 9, 1751 when his will was proved in North Kingstown.[1]
