Abe Vigoda was an affable character actor in both comedic and dramatic roles. He is best known for his portrayal of Detective Phil Fish in Barney Miller (1975). He was nominated 3 times for a Primetime Emmy Award for this role, which later was spun off into his own situation comedy series Fish (1977-1978).
