June 20, 1855 - Immigration - On the John Hancock from France.[1]

1860 - United States Federal Census - Ancestry indexes him as Vossan and the image indeed does look like that - but the family ages, places of birth and members are correct. In this census, Joseph Vossan, 45, and his wife Generoa Vossan, 45, are living near Owaneco, in Pana Township, Christian County, Illinois. Living with them are their sons Edward Vossan, 21, and Zoa Vossan, 13. Joseph is listed as a farmer.[2]

1900 - U.S. federal census - In 1900, Edward Vincent is 59, and married to his second wife, Bell S., 41. They are living in Pana, Christian Co., Illinois, with their sons Albert L., 18. and Arthur W., 16. Also living in the household is Edward's father, Joseph, 85. This census shows that Edward immigrated in 1855 but as of 1900 was still not a naturalized citizen.[3]
