Biography

Gladys Vollweiler was born May 13, 1894, three miles west of Findlay, Ohio in Blue Pidgeon, where her father built a house on a two acre lot of land.^[1] When she was four, her mother, Sarah Hamlin, died.

Her older sister, Della, started taking Gladys to school with her since there was no longer anyone at home to look after her. Gladys' father, John, took any work he could find, such as harvesting corn or cutting wood.

The family went to Powell Memorial Church located on Lima Road, and the children attended school in a small red-brick schoolhouse nearby.^[2]
