Jacob Corneliszoon Vroom was the son of Cornelis Hendrickszoon Vroom, whose birth is documented as occurring in 1591-2. Jacob's biography at the website of The Netherlands Institute of Art History deduces his approximate date of birth as follows ...
"Born na 1637, voor 1644; hij was nog minderjarig (dus nog niet 25 jaar oud) toen zijn vader overleed in 1661 (Van Thiel-Stroman, p. 330, 331, noot 5). In mei 1662 kocht hij in Amsterdam een rapier (Van Thiel=Stroman p. 331); hij moet dan tenminste 18 jaar oud zijn".
Translation:
Born after 1637, before 1644; he was still a minor (not yet 25 years old) when his father died in 1661 (Van Thiel Stroman, pp. 330, 331, note 5). In May 1662 he bought in Amsterdam a rapier (Van Thiel Stroman = 331 p.); [thus,] he must be at least 18 years old [at that time].[1]
Jacob's birth thus is roughly estimated at between 1637 and 1644 but must be closer to the latter year since he was not of age in 1661. He married Catharina Stalpaert van der Wiele in Haarlem on 22 June 1668. The couple remained in Haarlem, where Jacob was a fine art painter specializing in visual arts and design.[2][3]
The Netherlands Institute for Art History reports that Jacob died in 1706 and was buried on 6 March in the Grote Kerk [Great Church] in Haarlem. The University of Amsterdam Centre for the Study of the Golden Age memorializes four generations of the Vroom family, beginning with Jacob's 2nd-great-grandfather, Hendrick Corneliszoon de Vroom.
