Biography

David was born July 17, 1815 in McDonough Co, IL. David Oliver mar. Ellender Turner in Ray Co, MO- performed by Sam Bogart. All of their children were born in Ray Co, MO. He enlisted in the Union Army 1863 at Richmond, MO & served in Comp. K, 6th Reg. of MO Calvary & was discharged 1865. He took part in the battle of Boston Mtns in Ark & was captured at Neosho, MO Oct. 1863. He was stripped of all his clothing & made to spend 3 nights w/out blankets & cover. As a result, he contracted a severe cold which later caused almost total deafness & complete blindness in his left eye w/ partial blindness in the other. He drew a pension. After the war, he & Ellender remained in Ray Co, MO, living w/ Joseph (their youngest son) ca 1889 near Cameron where Wallace State Park is. Ellender was blind the last 5 yrs of her life & Joseph's wife, Lauracared for her through to the end, February 29, 1893. After Ellender died, David lived his son, James Cosby until his death in 1900. He was sitting on the front porch & fell off & died shortly after. He is buried at his farm SW of Hammond, MO in the Wallace Cem.
