Joan Mae Walter was born January 28, 1927 in Albany, Alameda, California to Martin Walter and Dorothy Mosher. She was the eldest of three children. [1][2]
Joan married Donald Ham, son of Helen Pascoe and Charles Ham, on March 30, 1947 in Berkeley, Alameda, California. They were married for 70 years. Joan and Don raised their family in the Terra Linda area of San Rafael, Marin, California. In 1950, Joan and Don lived with his parents in Albany, Alameda, California. [3]
While living in San Rafael, Joan worked as an Instructional Aid for the Marin County Office of Education beginning in the 1960s. She enjoyed the special education classroom settings and the joy from that came from helping developmentally disabled children learn. Joan volunteered with the Sunny Hills Guild through the Terra Linda Presbyterian Church and had many close friends in the neighborhood. The Ham family spent many summers at the family cabin in South Lake Tahoe. Joan and Don also owned an ice cream store in San Anselmo, Marin, California for a number of years.
Joan and Don retired in the 1980s in Cameron Park, El Dorado, California and then to Gold Canyon, Pinal, Arizona.
Joan died on December 8, 2017 in Gold Canyon and was cremated.
