Ernst was born in 1881. He was the son of Carl Walter and Caroline Graetz.
Reinhold Walter married a granddaughter of J.W. Pfeiffer, founder of Sedan. Pfeiffer's son, Traugott (Reinhold's father-in-law), had sold his property near Sedan in 1899 and settled near Loxton on land that had been part of Bookpumong Station. Unfortunately, that area had experienced several years of drought. In 1903, Traugott Pfeiffer with his wife and family, including daughter Elizabeth and her husband Reinhold Walter, moved to northern New South Wales in company with the Bartusch family.
They travelled from Loxton by river steamer to Murray Bridge, then transferred to the train for the rest of the journey. The Pfeiffers settled on virgin land of about 11,000 acres at Baan Baa where they ran sheep and grew wheat. Reinhold and Elizabeth lived in a house opposite her parents' farm. Later the young couple farmed at Black Mountain, before moving to Narrabri, to a small farm called 'Tipperenah'. Their next property was at Maules Creek, but they came back to an orchard at Narrabri. In retirement they lived at 4 Kate Street, Narrabri. Reinhold and Elizabeth had seven children six daughters and one son.
He passed away in 1957.
