The purpose of merging is to prevent duplication. Getting all the facts right is a separate problem. The better procedure in this case is to do the merge and then unlink Thornton P. Cooke as a second husband. There was a Thornton P. Cooke--Ann Ward marriage in Culpeper, Va in 1804, but that Ann Ward was presumably a different person. Both 'Ann' and 'Ward' are common names.
Ward-13374 and Ward-6535 do not represent the same person because: Marriage to Cooke would be while she was still having children last name Wayland until 1818. Ann and Joshua Wayland both buried in the Wayland Cemetery in 1839 and 1844
