Biography

HENRY WATSON JR. married (1st) 17 JAN 1798 in Nelson County, Kentucky to NANCY BRIDGEWATER and (2nd) 0 SEP 1803 to MARY ANN RHODES, daughter of Bazil Rhodes.

Henry was born between 1772-1778 based on the estimated years on various records. The 1860 census had his birth place as Pennsylvania. His son Abraham's 1880 census had his Father's Birthplace Maryland and Mother's Birthplace Pennsylvania. As Mary Rhodes was born in Maryland this was probably a transcription error on the part of the census taker. Henry probably died before 1870. He lived with his son Abraham according to the 1850 and 1860 census in Hunt, Texas. Henry was not on Abraham's 1870 census.

Henry was not a true "Junior." According to the "The history and genealogy of the George W. Cannady family" Junior and Senior were used to designate elder and younger rather than namesake.

Henry was raised in Nelson County, Kentucky (1784 and 1800 census). He married both of his wives there. By 1820 he was in Harrison County, Indiana. The 1820 census showed a total of 8 enslaved people. In 1826, according to land records he purchased 160 acres in Illinois and BLM GLO records showed cash purchases of over 400 acres in Vermilion, Illinois between 1827-1837.

The 1840 census placed Henry in Holt County, Missouri where he purchased 160 acres between 1846-1856. In 1850 he moved to Hunt County, Texas with his son Abraham. There he purchased 640 acres.
