Horatio Nelson Watson was born on 24 May 1839 in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England. He was the son of William Nelson Watson and Susan Hannah Gleadall.[1] He was christened at All Saints, Gainsborough on 7 June 1839.[2]

Horatio's father, William, died when Horatio was almost six months old.

In 1851, at the age of eleven, Horatio was living with his mother and sister in Bridge St, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. His mother was a proprietor of houses and Horatio was a scholar (at home).[3]

The family lived at "Ralahyne", Heidelberg St, East Brisbane for many years. [6] Ralahyne was named after an estate in Ireland that was connected to Henrietta's family line but known there as "Ralahine". In the 1830's, Ralahine was run as a commune in Ireland by John Vandeleur.

Horatio Nelson Watson died on 4 October 1915 in Brisbane, Queensland.[7] His death was reported in the local newspaper:
