Biography

Elen Winifred Watt was born in 1913. She was the daughter of Charles Watt and Elen McGuire, of Tomerong.

She married Ian Andrew Sinclair in 1934 at Nowra.[1][2] They had one daughter, Roslyn, who was disabled due to a birth injury.

Winnie was the Tomerong correspondent for the local newspaper for many years. (Her handwritten notes made the paper's transcriptions a little variable.)

Winnie passed away in 1998, and was interred in the Nowra cemetery.[3]

Wedding

WEDDING. SINCLAIR-WATT.[4]

The marriage of Mr. Ian Sinclair, third eldest son of Mr. David Sinclair, ex-Inspector of Police, of Bexley, Sydney, to Miss Elen Winefred Watt, second eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Watt, snr., of Tomerong, was celebrated at the Presbyterian Church. Nowra, on Saturday last, the Rev. J. H. G. Auld, B.A., being the celebrant. The bride was attired in full length dress of ivory satin, cut on classical lines, the beautiful tulle veil (loaned by the bride-groom's sister-in-law, Mrs. E. R. Sinclair, Sydney), was held in place with a coronet of lily of the valley and orange blossoms. She carried a lovely white bouquet of tuber roses, carnations, lily of the valley and hydrange falling to trails. Miss Beatrice (Trixie) Watt (sister to the bride) was bridesmaid, wore ankle length frock of apricot morocain with a bandeau of flowers of same shade, and carried a bouquet of pink carnations. Both the bride and bridesmaid each wore a beautiful string of crystals (presents of the bridegroom). Mr. D. G. Sinclair (brother to the bridegroom) acted as best man. The bride's mother wore a black morocain frock with floral trimmings and hat to match, carrying a bouquet of autumn shaded roses and chrysanthemums. The bride's travelling ensemble was of pale blue morocain, trimmed with white with a matching hat of marina blue felt. The Presbyterian School Hall, prettily decorated for the occasion by friends of the bride, was the scene of the wedding breakfast, where a large number of relatives and friends assembled for the occasion and quite a happy time was spent. The Rev. Mr. Auld presided, and in happy vein proposed the health of "The Bride and Bridegroom," responded to by the bridegroom, Mr. Sinclair. The next toast was proposed by Mr. W. G. Lackersteen, an old friend of the bride's parents, which was supported by Mr. H. L. Oliver, and responded to by Mr. C. Watt, snr., father of the bride, and Mr. Sinclair, snr., father of the bridegroom. The happy young couple left for Kiama, where the honeymoon was spent, amidst congratulations of the large number of guests, and showers of confetti. Many very nice and valuable presents, including cheques, were received.
