Biography

John Webb was born June 8, 1667 in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay. He was the son of John and Susan (Cunliffe) Webb. John married Hannah "Anna" Bassett about 1695 in Northampton. They had at least four children including Cornelius b. September 23, 1694, who married Mary Osborn; Anna b. February 24, 1696, who married John Hancock; Ebenezer b. February 9, 1700/01, who married Miriam Burt; and Sarah b. March 22, 1702/03, who married Joseph Jennings.

John passed away in Springfield, Massachusetts Bay on January 27, 1711/12 leaving "Anna" a widow. Quoting from the Registry: "Deaths:" "John Web the husband of Anna Web was sick and died January 27. 1711/12." On February 12, 1711/12, widow Hannah "Anna" filed an inventory of her husband's estate, which totaled 60.09 including house and 4 acres of land.

Of note is another John Webb who lived in Connecticut around this same time who may be confused with this John Webb, subject of this profile. The other John Webb was born same year, 1667, in Middlesex, Connecticut; married Ruth Graves on January 25, 1699/1700 in Saybrook, Connecticut; and died in Connecticut on January 28, 1711/12, one day after this John Webb. Some trees present Ruth Graves as 2nd wife of the John Webb, who is subject of this profile; however, the "Death" registry for "Springfield, Massachusetts," clearly identifies "Anna Web" as wife of John Web who died on January 27, 1711/12 in Springfield, Massachusetts Bay.
