Biography

Jane Selina Morrison (née Webster) was born on 21 May 1853/4 in Ridott, Stephenson, Illinois to Truman Webster and Elizabeth "Betsey" Hoyt.

She married William Henry Morrison of Quebec on 29 November 1875 in Freeport, Stephenson, Illinois and had twelve children. Jane lived on farms throughout her life and was a dedicated Methodist.

Jane passed away on 22 March 1940 in Pocahontas, Pocahontas, Iowa due to chronic endocarditis and bronchopneumonia and was buried on the 25th of March in Cedar Township Cemetery in Fonda, Pocahontas, Iowa.

From obituary in The Fonda Times:
"Jane Salina Webster was born May 21, 1854 at Riodott, Ill. This immediate community was the scene of her childhood days. Part of her interest and responsibility was that of caring for her invalid mother.

On the 29th of November, 1875 she was united in Marriage to William Morrison, They then were engaged in farming on her(?) mothers farm for the next six years.

In the year 1881 the family moved to Cherokee, Iowa, where they continued to live for about sveen years. Later they moved to Pocahontas County, locating in Varinas. The Morrison’s established the second home built in the present town of Varina. In 1913 they move to Pickford, Mich., where Mr. Morrison passed away in 1932. Mrs. Morrison then came to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. William Point at Rolfe, Iowa, from where she moved to the present Point resident in Pocahontas about two years ago.

Mrs. Morrison was the mother of 12 children. Among these there were three pairs of twins. The six surviving children are: R.E. Morrison of Modesta, Cal., Mrs. Luella Casper, of Grass Valley Cal., Mrs Bertha Point of Pocahontas, Mrs. Blanche Fitzgerald of Fonda, E.J. Morrison of Long Beach, Cal., and Dewy Morrison of Pickford Mich. There are 43 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Morrison endeavored to lead a faithful Christian life. At the time of her death she was a member of the Rolfe Methodist Church. She was faithful in her service to the church. She gave freely and willingly of time and work to further its interests. Her acts of kindness and ministrations of helpfulness were cheerfully extended to any who were in need in the respective communities where she lived. Although confined to her home for the last eight years, she nevertheless kept up her devotion to God through daily Bible reading and prayer. She was ready to depart and expressed her willingness to enter into the life immortal.

Mrs. Morrison passed away last Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm Point at Pocahontas, last Friday morning. Funeral services were held in Pocahontas on Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM, from the Methodist church, and interment was in the cemetery there. Pallbearers were W.D. Clark, Chas. Smith, Cark McLain, Chas. Eberle, Jeremy(?) De Young and D.V. Strong."
