Maryann Samila

Active church volunteer, Sunday School teacher, 70 Maryann (Wedemeyer) Samila, 70, of Union, N.J., died at home on Monday. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral on Thursday, Feb. 19, from the August F. Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home, 139 Westfield Ave., Elizabeth, N.J., at 12:15 p.m. Requiem Eucharist is at St. Luke's & All Saints Episcopal Church, Union, at 1:00 p.m. Interment is in Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth, N.J. Visiting is Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Maryann was born in Rahway, N.J., and moved to Union over 50 years ago. She was an active office volunteer, substitute teacher, camp programmer, and Sunday School bible teacher at St. Luke's & All Saints Episcopal Church, Union. She had a master of divinity from Rutgers in New Brunswick, N.J. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert t. Samila who died in 2006. She is survived by four sons, Eric R. Samila and his wife, Barbara of Waretown, N.J., John W. Samila and his wife, Stephanie of Woodbridge, N.J., Daniel M. Samila and his wife Lisa, of Union, and Peter J. Samila and his wife, Angela, of Florham Park, N.J. She was the grandmother of 11. Published in Star-Ledger on Feb. 17, 2015
