DO NOT CONFUSE THIS ZACHARIAH WELLS WITH OTHER ZACHARIAH WELLS. Wells-1602
Zachariah Zachery Wells - Born 1739 at Baltimore, MD. Son of Col. Richard Tidley Wells, Sr. and Nancy Ann Brown.
Married: Abigail Elizabeth Osborne on January 1, 1770 at Botetourt Parish, Grayson County, VA.
Death: 15 March 1825 at Big Stone Gap, Lee County, VA
Actual grave site is unknown; supposed to be in Wells Family Cemetery at Big Gap, Virginia. There are at least 3 or 4 sites in the area designated and all are overgrown and almost impossible to access.[1]
According to Sturgill's book, Zachariah arrived in the New River Valley from Maryland. He was an Indian Scout for about 10 days for this area.
From 1778-1798 he was on Grayson County, VA tax lists, court and deed lists. His land was next to Old James Sturgill and then Francis Sr's land on the New River. In 1798, he sold the land to Francis, Sr. and moved to Wise County, VA near Appalachia.
John Sturgill (Francis, Sr's son) and wife, Jemima (Zachariah's daughter) moved near his farm when they moved from NC to KY to VA in 1816.

DNA Confirmation
The group of 5 cousins in these tables are presumed to be 5th cousins to 5th cousins once removed through at least 4 different children of Zachariah Wells. Tim P is not sharing his tree information so his line of descent is not known. Laurena Duff is also a 5th cousin once removed, but she has not yet uploaded her DNA to GEDMatch.
The first table uses the standard of 5cM threshold. With relationships that are presumed to be known (especially with significant amounts of women in the link), using a 3cM threshold is of more value.[6]
Count of shared segments (Chr 1-22) with 5cM Threshold:
These results are based on the 3.0 cM / 300 SNP threshold with the GEDMatch Multi Kit Analysis Tool[7] Note: this is causing a 404 non working link error code, so removed the https prefix on 10 March, 2021. It probably no long works due to privacy changes at GEDMATCH.: Morrison-4392
The second table shows a more reasonable distribution of cM segments between 5th, 5th once removed, and 7th cousins. It would be very interesting to see Laurena Duff's DNA represented in this chart because her father was a direct male descendant of Zachariah and therefore should have passed on longer segments of his DNA to her than any of these other cousins would have. Betty and Mel both have 3 women between them and Zachariah which fits with their resultant smaller shared DNA totals.
This information gives strong support to Margaret, William, Nancy and Zachariah T. all being children of the same Zachariah Wells. It also gives strong support that the same Zachariah has James and Thomas as his brothers thanks to Milton and Laurie. But at this point there are no common DNA strands of sufficient length shared by 3 or more of these cousins to provide DNA proof of relationship through Autosomal Trangulation.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Zachariah by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
I have corresponded with a lady, Vivian on FTDNA, in my Shawnee Bluejacket project before about a non paternal event (per her DNA research, and she is very knowledgeable) that occurred some place upline of Zachariah. I found her message. and it is much the same that is on Find A Grave regarding the DNA results: "DNA may show that his parents may be George Wells and Susannah Ward. The Wells and Ward family were together in Md."
I think you may want to note it on the profile, unless new DNA info has proven the parents ?

You should research the Virginia Wells.
