Biography

Arminta was my Grandmother, Daughter of George Wells and Granddaughter of Richard Wells She was buried at Porter Farm and in 1947 when Dewey Dam was built she was moved to ARC Auxier KY.[1]

Minta was born May 1, 1869. Her father was a farmer born about 1800 in Kentucky. In 1870 her mother, born about 1840 in Virgina, was enumerated as being 30 and keeping house which included Minta and her eight older siblings. The three oldest were brothers ages 12 to 16 and worked on the farm. Minta also had two more brothers and two sisters ages 3 to 10.[2]

By 1880 10 year old Araminta had two younger brothers and a younger sister. The 1880 US Cesnsus enumerated her mother, Nancy, as 45 and year of birth was estimated at 1835. Three older siblings were no longer living on the farm.[3]

Minta married John Porter 1890, probably early in that year. John was the father of three boys by his first wife, Matilda who passed away after the birth of her last known son on May 31, 1888. In the first ten years of marriage Minta had five children including one daughter and three sons. One child was born between 1894 and 1897 and was not included in the 1900 US Census which enumerated at age 31 and birth date was during May 1869.[4]

Minta had two more sons in the first decade of the twentieth century.[5]

Minta had another son about 1915.[6]

Mintie Porter, wife of John Porter, passed away July 14, 1936 in Auxier, Floyd County, Kentucky, United States. She was 67. Her death certificate estimated her birth in Odds, Ky as 1869 to George and Nancy Butcher Wells. Cause of death was cardiac insufficiency.[7][8]
