DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Philip by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Philip:

I believe this Philip WELLS to be the son of Samuel Wells and Ann Hamilton. 1840 he is living in Hart Co., KY with neighbors of brother-in-law, Daniel BOONE and brother William WELLS.

You might be right, but note that William Wells was the brother of Samuel Wells, not Samuel's son. I've been slowing trying to look for x-DNA matches within the Wells family to confirm relationships. We know Lavinia and Sally were daughters of Philip (Sr.). So we might be able to find x-DNA matches to either daughters of Philip (Jr.) or to daughters of Samuel. Either would prove the correct ancestry. Bill Utterback has done the most extensive research on the Wells family to my knowledge. I'll write to him about his.
