George West, Knt., was a younger son of Thomas West, K.G., K.B., 8th Lord la Warre, 5th Lord West, by his third wife, Eleanor Copley.[1][2] His date of birth is unknown and is estimated based on the 1502 death of his father's second wife.
George was appointed Master and Warden of the Collegiate Church of Manchester, Lancashire, on 29 July 1516. In 1522 he was appointed Rector of Shepton Mallet, Somerset by his father. In 1525, Sir George was a legatee in the will of his father and, in October 1528, he resigned from both the church in Somerset and from his wardenship in Lancashire.[1]

George married Elizabeth Morton,[3] widow of Robert Walden, and daughter of Sir Robert Morton by Jane Warham, about 1 July 1529 (date of grant).[1] George and Elizabeth had two sons and one daughter:
William, 1st Lord La Warr (or De La Warr), died 30 December 1595, married first Elizabeth Strange, second Anne Swift[1][3]
Thomas, Knt., 2nd son, died before 14 November 1622, married first Elizabeth Hotofte and second Katherine ______ [1]
Sir George West left a will dated 7 September 1538 and proved 25 September 1538. He was buried at Warbleton, Sussex.[1] George was succeeded by his son, William West.[3] His widow remarried to Ralph Rosier, Esq. and will still living in 1568.[1]
