Samuel Westcott Jr was born Jan 24, 1704 and died July 18, 1759[1]. He married Mary. She was born Nov 28, 1703 and died Aug 20, 1785 in Providence, RI. They had a child Jeremiah.[2]
A Samuel Westcott appeared in the 1747 Rhode Island Census as living in Providence.[3]
"Samuel Westcott, b-Jan. 24, 1704, on his father's farm, d-July 18, 1759, m-Mary , b-Nov. 28, 1703, d-Providence, Aug. 20, 1785. Samuel's will dated June 22, 1758, states that he is then bound on an expedition against His Majesty's enemies, referring to what is now called the "French War," when an attempt was made to reduce the French forts on Lake George and invade Canada. In this expe- dition a number of Rhode Island regiments took part. It is not known whether he lost his life in one of the numerous engagements that oc- curred on the northern frontier in the month of July, 1759, or wheth- er he died of disease. His inventory was 779 pounds. He was the owner of considerable real estate in what is now the city of Provi- dence and the surrounding territory. When he left with his regi- ment, he was evidently living "in town," owning and residing upon the lot at the northwest corner of College and Benefit streets, oppo- site the Court House. He is called at different periods of his life "husbandman," "gale-keeper," (gate-keeper), and "in holder." Issue, 8 ch.: Jeremiah, Thomas, Freelove, Mary, Mary (again), Mercy, Ly- dia, Samuel.[4]
