Biography

James was born in 1804 in Virginia. He was the son of Caleb Whitacre and Keziah Whitacre. In 1827 at age 23, he married Elizabeth Fitz Randolph in Warren County. They settled to farm initially in the Salem area in Warren County, and moved to farm for a while in the 1840's and 1850's in Darke County, Ohio, but returned to the Salem area by 1860. By 1870, they had shifted nearby to the Blanchester area in Clinton County, Ohio. They had fourteen children together, one of whom died young. James died in 1879 at age 75 and is buried (probably with his wife) in New Hope Cemetery near Blanchester, Ohio.

Research notes

There are no records yet identified to support the existence of the two children who died in infancy beyond reports in Ancestry.com trees, but presumably these made it into the family genealogy through early first-hand knowledge or a family bible. A first-born Elizabeth Rachel is reported in some Ancestry.com trees born in 1828 died in 1829, but this appears to be inconsistent with the Elizabeth Rachel born in 1830. Supporting evidence will be needed for both children and then wikitree profiles can be created. For now, James 1847-1847 is left in the list of children, but Elizabeth Rachel 1828-1829 is left out.
