Daniel White is not the son of Daniel White and Sarah Turner born on July 10, 1769 in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Please read the arguments and evidence presented at Daniel White Research.
Daniel is likely the son of John White and Ann Alward who settled in Woodbury, New Jersey. Whether or not this family originated in Massachusetts as the history books state is not known. There is evidence to support that John White and Ann Alward had a son named Ebenezer in the parish records. The Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey v.4 p.97 has a list of pew-holders of Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church 1769-1776 and shows that there is an Ebenezer White listed as holding pew 47 and Henry Alward holds pew 44. (this is the Henry Alward buried in the churchyard). Henry Alward is the father of Ann Alward.[1][2][3] The following was included in White Family Recorder. This “book” is really a collection of newsletters published by Violet White Smith of Chicago, Illinois between 1919 and 1932. [4]
Story of the White Brothers - During the summer of 1932, we drove through Cayuga and Tompkins counties and obtained some interesting information regarding the pioneer White brothers. The descendant of one of the brothers had notes from old letters written to her ancestor by the other brothers, including Ebenezer White. [These letters named Daniel and his brothers as Abel, William, John, Ebenezer, Daniel, Henry, Alward and Albert White.] Another piece of circumstantial evidence is the names given by Daniel to his children which include Henry, Able and John. Of course a strong piece of circumstantial evidence is the name of Alward White.
George Goodrich, in his Centennial History of The Town of Dryden, says of Daniel White: "Besides being a practical miller Mr. white was an ordained deacon of the Methodist Church and preached in the Cayuga circuit in 1802 and for several years thereafter. He came to Lansing (just before moving on to the Freeville site) from Pennsylvania but was originally from Roxbury, Mass., and died at the age of 78, leaving a family of 14- children, of whom the only present (1897) survivors are Daniel M. White of Dryden, secretary of the present Centennial Committee, Mrs. Anna Montfort of Peruville, and Mrs. Geo. F. A. Baker of West Dryden."Historical_Sketch_of_the_Village_of_Freeville.pdf[5]
Daniel White's gravestone gives his date of death as September 16, 1845 and states that he died in his 78th year. This would indicate a birth date of about 1767.[6] View his gravestone here.
Family & Migrations
Daniel married Anna Knapp about 1787 and she and her brother Samuel Knapp accompanied Daniel to Cayuga County, New York.[7][4]
Daniel was included on the tax list for Lycoming, Northumberland, Pennsylvania in 1786
[8], 1787[9] and 1788[10]
Freeville Mill.
Daniel was counted in the 1790 U.S. census living in Northumberland, Pennsylvania. He has a household of five with four females.[11]
George Goodrich states in the The centennial history of the town of Dryden that Daniel White settled in Dryden in 1798 and he first settled in Lansing for a short time before coming to Dryden. He continues to say that "...Daniel White and his brother-in-law, Samuel Knapp, a soldier of the Revolution...Knapp took up his on Lot No. 14, where he raised a large family and died July 1, 1847, aged 91 years. Mr. White gave his attention to the construction of the first grist-mill of the town...He procured a stone which he found on the Thompson (now Skillings) farm, split it and himself dressed out and took to the mill the first millstones, which answered the purpose and were in constant use until the mill was reconstructed in 1818"[7] Goodrich is supported by the 1800 U.S. census where Daniel White was living in Cayuga County, New York with a household of 8 people including 6 children.[12]
Anna died about 1838 and Daniel married again to Jane Beatty about 1840. Daniel and Jane had three children:
Daniel M. b. 1840 m. Mary Yates
Anne Jane b. 1841m. James Montfort
Robert b. 1842 died at 5 years old
Dryden Township.
The 1850 U.S. census shows Jane living with her son Daniel and daughter Jane as head of household. Living next door was her step-son Henry White and his family.[13]
Occupation
Daniel was a miller and a circuit-riding Methodist minister.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Daniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Daniel:
I have not found enough evidence to prove that Daniel was the son of John White and Ann Alward of NJ but I am working on it. I will post any new evidence or details that are discovered.
I added a section that contains the research that I have collected for the origins of Daniel White. I will also add a G2G thread so that we can discuss the issues and get a consensus before moving forward to disconnect his parents.
