Biography

Thomas was born in 1740. He died in 1813 at the age of 72.

Thomas I and his oldest son, Thomas II both served in the Revolutionary War in North Carolina. Thomas I served with the 6th North Carolina Regiment. He enlisted as a Private in 1776 under Col. Gideon Lamb & was discharged as a Captain in 1778. They stayed in North Carolina until about 1792 when they moved to the Natchez District, in what is now Claiborne County, Mississippi, which he acquired through Revolutionary War grants and purchases. Thomas I served on the first panel of jurors in Claiborne County, Mississippi in 1802. He was a Commissioner who helped purchase land for the first courthouse. According to online sources, his wife was Margaret. DAR Ancestor #A124318

Mississippi Revolutionary Soldiers Service: He was in the 6th North Carolina Regiment as Lieut., then as Capt. He also signed the Cumberland Association Pact. Officers of Coninental Army. By Heitman. Thomas White (N.C.) 1st Lieut., 6th NC 4/16/1776 Capt., 20th 1/1777. Retired 6/1/1778.

According to land records, Thomas is in Burke County, North Carolina in 1790 per the 1790 Census: North Carolina, Morgan District, Burke County. White, Thos. Jr., 1 free white male of 16 and up inc. head of family. 6 free white males under 16. 4 free white females. 0 slaves.

From Jefferson County, Missouri Deed Record A1 1798 - 1818. 5/1800. This indenture dated 8/17/1798, Moses, Sarah, Robert, Felex, Elizabeth and Polly Armstrong of Dist. of Bayou Pierre to Thomas White of same for $300.00 land in the Dist. of Bayou Pierre cont. 400 ac. bounded on NE by Filmer and Abram Green, SE by vacant land, SW by vacant land and on NW by the south fork of Bayou Pierre and witnessed by Ebeneezer Smith, Davenport Wiseman, and Jos. White. 8/17/1798 received of Thomas White $300.00 in full for land, signed by Armstrongs, in presence of Joseph White, Ebeneezer Smith, John Pollard and Davenport Wiseman.

Claiborne County, Mississippi - The Promised Land. By Katy McCaleb Headley. Pages 333 & 336: "Captian Thomas White, Jr. was the son of Colonel White. He was born in 1740 and died in 1813 in Claiborne County. He was a signer of the Cumberland Association Pact. His will was probated 1/16/1813 in Port Gibson, Mississippi. The will was dated 7/30/1812 in Claiborne County, Mississippi. I, Thomas White of the County of Claiborne in the Mississippi Territory being of sound mind and perfect memory do on this the 30th day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twelve make publish and ordain this to be my Last Will and Testament in form and manner as follows to-wit: 1st I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah White one third part of my estate both real and personal and during her natural life. 2nd I give and bequeath unto my son Nelson White One Hundred acres of land lying and being in the County aforesaid on the Bayou Pierre between my home plantation and Abram Green's of which my said son Nelson is now in possession. 3rd I give and bequeath unto my son Thompson White, One Hundred acres of land lying and being in the County aforesaid on the Bayou Pierre joining above to the land herein given to Nelson White. 4th All the rest of my estate both real and personal I give and bequeath unto my children to wit: Larkin White, Nelson White, Sophia Simmes, Thompson White, Phebe Regan, Mary Thompson, William White, Sarah White, Joseph White and Benjamin White share and share alike to be equally divided among they and their heirs forever. I hereby make and ordain my son Nelson White and Ralph Regan Executors to this my Last Will and Testament making null and void all other wills and testaments by me heretofore made confirming this to be my last Will and Testament. In witness I have hereunto set my hand and seal the date first above written Signed Thomas White Signed sealed and published in presence of Thos Barnes Box W-5 Chancery Clerk's Office Claiborne County 1/23/1813 Inventory & appraisement of good & chattels of Thomas White, Dec'd. Slaves $8,900.00, horses, cattle, hogs, oxen, sheep, all tools & household items $2,324.75 Inventory signed by Ralph Regan one of the Executors' 1/15/1815 Slaves were allotted to the following: Sarah White, the widow 1/3 part "The remainder laid off into Lots and drawn as follows" Larkin White No. 7. Nelson White No. 4. Sophie Wiseman No. 6. Thompson White No. 1. Phebe Regan No. 10. Mary Thompson No. 3. William White No. 9. Sarah White No. 8. Joseph White No. 5. Benjamine White No. 2".
