Biography

Woodard was born in 1871. He was the son of Edward Woodard Whited and Eveline Thomas McAnnally.

He died in 1905. He was buried at Frisco Cemetery in Frisco, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma,

Vol 28, page 6 WLG Whited was granted a leave of absence from his homestead starting 10 March 1902.

Relinquished claim on Greer County, Oklahoma Homestead (Lots 1 and 2 of Section 7, Township 7 North, Range 23 West and eastern half of northwest quarter of Section 12, Township 7 North, Range 24 West.)

"The Chickasaw National Academy, consisting of a boarding school for Chickasaw Indian children... This institution was located about one mile southeast of Old Stonewall, now Frisco, Oklahoma. Its site adjoins the north edge of the old Stonewall cemetery where the remains of such prominent Chickasaws ... are interred, said cemetery having been established shortly before the Civil War. Some of the old graves are walled in and covered with wide slabs of stone.

Date: 03 JUN 1904 Place: Roff, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory "The only school system in Indian Territory is that of the tribal schools, maintained by the several tribes. This has been augmented this year by an appropriation of $100,000 by congress, which will be used to strengthen the tribal schools, establish new schools and provide for attendance of white children at the tribal schools. In all the towns there are public schools, maintained by taxation, Each town directs its own school system and pays the expenses. It is estimated that there are 100,000 school children in the Territory."

Anecdote Note: According to a story passed down to Sadie Terry, "When he (John R. Whited) was a baby the Northern soldiers tried to make his mom (Evelyn T. Whited) tell where his father (Edward W. Whited) was. They slung him around by his heels and were about to bash his head against a tree. Still she wouldn't tell where he was; that she didn't know. I understand he was in hiding, but not sure."

E.W. Whited and wife, E.T. Whited sold one and three quarters acres to B.P. Sinclair for $275. Book T page 557 E.W. Whited deeded about one-half acre of land to the trustees of the Methodist Epistable Church
