Biography

Susannah Whitehurst was born October 17, 1786 in Beaufort County, North Carolina, USA.[1] She was the daughter of Simon Whitehurst and Mary Ann Scott.

Susannah married John Perry Wall, Jr. in 1805 and they had one child, Perry Green Wall, born on November 2, 1809. John Wall died around 1812 and Susannah and Perry moved back into the home of her father Simon.

Susannah married Shadrack Sutton around 1817/18 and moved to Irwin County, Georgia according to the 1820 census.[2] By 1826, the Sutton family had moved to Hamilton County, Florida where Susannah's brother, John Whitehurst, had settled. They had at least six children together.

In January of 1828, Sharack was appointed to the office of Hamilton County Sheriff. The 1850 census shows Susannah and Shadrack, both aged 64, living in the Melendez Settlement of Benton County (today's Hernando County) with none of their children living at home. Shadrack's occupation is listed as "farmer".[3]

Susannah Whitehurst Wall Sutton passed away before 1867. She is buried in Pinellas County's Curlew Pioneer Cemetery in Palm Harbor, Florida.[4]
