Biography

Elizabeth was born 1787 in Rutherford Co. NC and destined to live well past the life expectancy of her day. She first married John Ledbetter on Aug. 11, 1804. The marriage record indicates that she was called "Bee". In 1803 John Ledbetter had received from his father Richard Ledbetter 325 ac. on both sides of Cove Creek near the confluence with Cedar Creek in Rutherford Co. NC., this being the honeymoon home of John and Elizabeth. The place is today Hoover Rd.(1381). Their house was still standing, well-kept, and occupied in 2007 by an African-American family whose last name was Ledbetter. John Ledbetter died rather young in 1817. He is thought to be buried in an unmarked grave at nearby Bill's Creek Bap. Church cemetery. She later married a Gabriel Wilmot or Wilmuth. This was said to have been an unhappy union, according to the late Ledbetter historian Mary Ledbetter Morgan Peters of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.(1959). Still later Elizabeth married a Jones Bradley and they resided at Montfords Cove. Her father John Whiteside died in 1835 and in 1836 she received his 170 ac. tract on Bills Creek, including the Bills Creek Meeting House (the church), and the baptising place on Little Bills Creek(this lovely pool is still near the present church). Elizabeth Bradley last appears on the 1870 census of Rutherford Co. NC, age given as 82, living at "Chimney Rock", with her daughter Nancy Williams. Elizabeth apparently died at Chimney Rock(today a tourist location). The minutes of Bills Creek Bap. Church indicate that she passed away in 1873. She is thought to have been buried in their church yard. The above written by Dennis Stewart(16676). Do not edit or merge this profile. First contact the profile manager or Dennis Stewart.
