He was married 31 October 1848 at home in New Bern, Craven, North Carolina to Miss. Mary Ann Brown.[3]
He was married a third time to Mrs. Lucy Winifred "Winnie" Whitfield
He died 16 June 1880 in Tallahassee, Leon, Florida and was buried at St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery.[2]

Birth Date: The Whitfield book states that his birth was 6 June 1904. His birth date 1 June 1904 was inscribed on his tombstone.
