Bryant was born in 1811. He died in 1880.

Parents: William Whitfield IV 1764 - 1822 and Mary (Beck) Whitfield 1767 - 1848.

Spouse: Mary Louise (Smith) Whitfield 1829 - 1910. They were married 9/19/1847 in Hancock, Illinois. Per Illinois Marriages, 1815 - 1935.

Obituary the Nauvoo Independent, 12/31/1880: "Died at Montrose, Iowa 12/22/1880, Mr. Bryant Whitfield, in his 67th year. The deceased was born at Clarksville, Tennessee, in the year 1814, and came to this city during the Mormon troubles in 1845. He was married to Miss Mary L. Smith in 1847. Three children were born to them, all of whom are yet living. Bryant was a very active and industrious man in the manhood of his life and for several years ran a number of mail routes in this and adjoining counties. He served as a Scout in the Mexican War and as a soldier in the Black Hawk War, being with Stillman at the time of his defeat and in the battle in which the great chief was defeated. He resided here until 1870, when he took up his abode in Montrose, where he lived until a year ago last spring, when he returned to this city (Nauvoo). He remained here until last spring then returned to Montrose. He had been complaining of some internal trouble for several years, but remained on his feet until within a short time previous to his death. The nature of his disease was not defined by his physicians".
