Biography

Edwin Whiting married (concurrently) Elizabeth Partridge Tillotson (in 1833), Mary Ann Washburn (in 1857), Almira Mehitable Meacham, Mary Elizabeth Cox, and Hannah Haines Brown. Elizabeth and Edwin were early converts to the Mormon religion, being baptized into the Mormon faith in 1838 while living in Nelson, Portage County, Ohio.

During the early years in Manti, San Pete County, Utah, Edwin Whiting was often sent on missions to the East, leaving his wife Elizabeth to battle pioneer life alone, living in a dugout cave, fearful of the Indians, fending off rattlesnakes, and enduring the grasshopper famine.
