On 15 July 1737, petitioned the Selectmen of Boston for a Retailer's license, "as he is sick with the gout and can no longer follow the sea as he was brought up to do".[4][5]
Signed a petition by the residents of Boston's North End asking that a new road be built from Sheafe St. to the Charles River.[6]
John was buried at Copp's Hill Burying Ground, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. The inscription on the stone read "Here Lyes Buried the Body of Mr. John Whittemore Aged 63 Years Died April Ye 21st 1748".[7]
