William Wilding was born in Suffolk, England.

William Wilding was born in the January to March quarter of 1838 to William Wilding and Mary Ann Curtis. His birth was registered in Ipswich.

William had a sister, named Maria, born about 1840.

His mother, Mary Ann, died April 1, 1844 in Southwark and his father remarried to Harriet Langley, September 17, 1844 in Southwark.

An Ancestry family tree has his marriage to Mary Harrison, but the marriage attached is for a daughter, Amelia, with William as her father.
