Sarah "Sallie" Wilkey was born about 1812 in North Carolina. She was the daughter of Vincent Wilkey and Mary "Polly" (Dockery) Wilkey. See Research Notes.
As detailed in the "Jonathan Tree" book,[1]pages 5-6, in 1826, she traveled by foot and horse drawn oxen, from Hendersonville, North Carolina to Hopkins County, Kentucky with her widowed mother Polly, grandfather John Dockery and four siblings: John, Sam, Margery and Jonathan Jackson. it was surmised that the move resulted from the death of her father Vincent and the news that her uncle Richard Perry Dockery had bought land in Hopkins County, Kentucky in 1820.
She married Andrew Tirey in 1829, as referenced in the "Jonathan Tree", page 137[1] and had several children including Margy, Joseph, Samuel John and Willis. Note , the referenced book also includes Harriet Angeline Tirey as her daughter, see research notes.
Per the 1830 U.S. Census, enumerated in Hopkins County, Kentucky, three people lived in Andrew Tirey's household: 1 male (age 20-29) and 2 females (age 15 - 19). Translation: Andrew, Sarah and unknown female.[2]
There is also some uncertainty in regard to her date and place of death. Her son Willis was born in 1844 in Kentucky. Her husband Andrew married Nancy Johnston on 4 March 1847 in Obion County, Tennessee. [3] . Thus, she died between 1844 and 1847, probably in Kentucky.
