Biography

Jane Wilkinson was born about 1690 in Baltimore County, Maryland, to William Wilkinson and Tamar (Love) Wilkinson. [1] Jane married Edward Edwin Corbin before 1707, based on the birth of their first known child.[2] Jane died about 1758.

Research Notes

Many sources give (ca.) 1697 as Jane's date of birth, but that would have made her too young to have given birth to Nicholas in 1706 — if, indeed, he is actually her child. To have borne Nicholas, she must have been born at least before 1690, which puts her age more in line with her husband's, especially if this was the first marriage for both of them. Another possibility is that Edward had an earlier wife who bore Nicholas, which is supported by the 14-year year gap with only one child between him and the next child.[3]

No known documentary sources contain the first name "Mary" for the subject of this profile. All of the reliable sources, such as the birth records for children Abraham, Phillis Anna, Providence, and Unity Corbin, list the mother's name as "Jane."

Edward is obviously alive in 1758, not just 1750. Barnes makes a lot of mistakes in regard to dates. There is no mention of a daughter, Mary Jane. Thomas SLIGH is Edward's brother-in-law. I can't figure why Barnes put Edward as "possibly" a son, then lists him immediately afterwards as a son. Is there any doubt that he is a son? Nor can I figure why he lists William Wilkinson as "possibly" a son when a deed (see above) clearly shows him to be their son. Ditto for Edward.

p. 81 MARYLAND CORBIN FAMILY (Furnished by Mrs. Effie S. Honson, of Ventura, California, to Mrs. J. W. Marr, Lexington, Ky.)
NICHOLAS CORBIN — Came to Baltimore Co., Md. in 1671. (Authority, "Early Maryland Settlers List." "Annapolis land office records. Vol. XVI., page 533." Alice, wife of Nicholas Corbin, 2nd., mar. John Barrot. (Annapolis Md. Inventories and Accounts, XX, page 47). Children of Nicholas and Alice Corbin, ::1, Elizabeth (mr. Roberts); 2. Mary (mar. Gostwick); 3, Edward (mar. Jane Wilkinson, a daughter of Wm Wilkinson, 1718). Children of Edward and Jane Corbin: 1, Nicholas; 2, William Wilkinson Corbin, died; 3, Abraham Corbin; 4, Phyllis Anna Corbin; 5, Providence Corbin; 6, Unity Corbin; 7, Edward Corbin, Jr...
Nicholas made the crossing with his first wife, Elizabeth, and daughters Elizabeth and Mary, so Alice was not their mother. Alice does appear to have been Edward's mother.
