Biography

John Williams, son of Mayflower descendant Elizabeth (Rogers) Williams and her husband Nathaniel, was born in Taunton, Massachusetts, August 27, 1675.[1] [2]

He married Hannah Robinson, by 1702.[2]

John died in Taunton August 18, 1724 in his 49th year.[3][2]

The inventory of his estate, dated 9-16 April 1724, calls him "John Williams late of Taunton.".[4] The estate was valued at £1176, and included a dwelling house, half a mill house, and more than 425 acres of land, along with rights in the undivided land in the old township of Taunton and in the "north purchase." Hannah Williams, widow of John, and Nathaniel Williams (relationship not stated, but probably eldest son), were administrators on the estate. Some of these parcels of land appear to have been in the area of Taunton that is now known as Easton.

Silas is correctly identified as the son of John & Hannah (Robinson) Williams, but you show Silas had a wife named Mary Wetherell. That contradicts what the silver book says: 1) Mary Dunham and 2) Susanna Pratt. Would you like to make the corrections on the spouse?

Silas's first wife was born Mary Wetherell, which would make it her maiden name. The woman he married was named Mary Dunham, because that was her name after she married Isaac Dunham who unfortunately seems to have passed away rather early in their marriage. This is shown on here: https://archive.org/details/historygenealog00with/page/126/mode/2up

This is also supported by the will of Mary Wetherell's father Nathaniel who leaves a small inheritance to the children of Silas Williams as they would be the children of his deceased daughter Mary here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9YR-368H?cat=277787

I can also only find the one Mary that he had married, who was named Dunham at the time of their marriage, and is listed as the mother of those of Silas's children that were born in Easton including Paul, Silas, Mary, and Nathaniel in one record here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-8979-WHW4?i=38&cc=2061550

She's listed again in another set of records also as the mother of Sarah, John, Bethiah, Elijah, and Savannah, plus this record also lists the death of Nathaniel and states "Mary Williams wife to Silas Williams Departed this Life November the 14th 1757 in the 42nd year of her age." here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q29G-5M67

The listed date not only coincides for the DOD of the aforementioned Mary Wetherell, but "42nd year of her age" also lines up loosely with Mary Wetherell's birth date of May 3, 1715. Quite a few things lining up and no other record of a Mary Dunham aside from one that would have been 13 at the time of their marriage.

Now as far as I know we're supposed to always put maiden names first, so I don't think a correction is in order. but I have also included "Dunham" in her record even though my interest does not extend to Isaac.

Agreed, well done. Please see my comments on Silas's profile. I've connected Silas to his parents. But please do follow through and add the sources to both Silas's and Mary's profiles to avoid later disputes since it isn't what's published in the "silver book."

Does one of the listed sources include the birth of Silas (1707) in the source? I looked at some of them and could not find one. I am trying to add Silas as there is a long string of descendants who are not yet on Wikitree.

(Edit) I found him in the source attached: [S1] Ann T. [Revised by], (Originally compiled by Alice W. A. Westgate) Reeves, Mayflower Families Through Five Generations: Descendants of the Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth, Mass. December 1620: Family of Thomas Rogers (Plymouth, MA: General Society of Mayflower Descendants, 2000), p. 63. Hereinafter cited as Rogers-Silver. BUT I am not allowed to create the profile. Could someone add son Silas please? If you agree with the source.

Checked, superb as usual. I've changed the death location from Easton to Taunton, as the VRs & probate file (details added) both say Taunton. For argument's sake, the lands inventoried in his probate file might have been in what was soon to be Easton. But the records state Taunton.

Williams-25897 and Williams-17546 appear to represent the same person because: They are the husband of a merged profile. Only difference is a couple days in death date.
