Will of Francis Wisdom

PITTSYLVANIA CO. VIRGINIA WILLS:

I, Francis Wisdom, of the County of Pittsylvania and State of Virginia do make this my last Will and Testament in form and manner following viz: as I suppose I have ...... equal part to each of my children or their representatives at their leaving me, it is my will that Old Mill and Isbell who are to go to which of my children or grandchildren they please and the rest of my Negroes I dispose of in the following manner. Item, I give unto ..... Doctor Crafford Williams the following negroes to wit. Lucy, George, Amy, Easter, Alle, and Handye (?) and the rest of my Negroes to go in families as follows to wit. Pheabe (?), Nat. and Ambros together also Nel, Henry, Daniel, Cooling (?), and Shadrick in a lot also Rachel, Jere., Winston, Jonathan, and Cildeas (?) in a lot and Harry, Toby, Joe (line thru name), Aran (line thru name), Meme (?), Rhodah, and Winne to go in a lot together and that my grandson, Thomas Craig shall ...... have an equal share with Doctor C. Williams. Item, It is my will that my son, Thomas Wisdom heirs shall have an equal proportion of one child's part land. Item, It is my desire that my grandson, Lewis Wisdom, son of Thomas Wisdom, be paid twenty-five pounds ..... out of my estate Item, the plantation where on I now live and land is to be sold for twelve months credit also the stock of all kind, also my household and kitchen furniture with the crop on hand and that that is now growing except the tabacco that is on hand which is to be .... and carried to market and sold as ................ (?). Item, Immediately after the crop is finished which I suppose may be done by the first days of January next and it is my will that Doctor C. Williams who is married to my granddaughter, Nancy Wisdom, should be my whole, sole, and only Executor to this my last will and testament and that he shall move to my plantation at my decease and that he shall have five pounds per month until he settles my estate for his trouble and that he is to kill such of my stock as he may think necessary for the support of the family until the division takes place which I suppose may be in .. January next and it is my will that the money on hand with all the money that is due me or may be due after the sale if any after paying those that are to receive money in lieu of Negroes if any shall remain to be divided among my five children or their legal representatives which I give unto them and their heirs forever. Given under my hand and seal this third day of September 1794.

At a court held for Pittsylvania County the 15th of September, 1794:

The foregoing last Will and Testament of Francis Wisdom, deceased, was exhibited into court by Doctor C. Williams, the executor therein named and the same being proved by the oaths of the witnesses, such was ordered to be recorded and the said executor having first taken the oath by Law presented, and together with William Barksdale, David C. Williams, James M Williams, Jesse Smith, Joseph Carter, John Wilson, and William Walters, his securities, entered into Bond and acknowledges the same Certificate was granted him for obtaining a Probate of the said Will in .... form. By the Court. Teste Will Turnbull.
