Grace (Williams) Walton, through her descendants Maria Eliza Walton - Isaac Roosevelt - James Roosevelt, is the 2nd great grandmother of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945), the 32nd President of the United States.
Grace, the daughter of Charles (1700-1773) and Sarah Elizabeth (Oliver; ca 1705-aft 1745) Williams was born about 1740 in New York, British Colonial America. Her parents had emigrated from England prior to her birth. Grace's parents were married on 7 September 1726 at St. Benet Paul's Wharf, London, England.[1]
Grace married Abraham Walton, the son of Jacob and Maria (Beekman) Walton on 6 August 1766 at Trinity Church in New York, British Colonial America.[2]Their seven children were born in Hempstead, New York and baptized (bp.) at Saint Georges Church in Hempstead. Abraham's Will, page 143 confirms the six surviving children:[3]
Charlotte Elizabeth Walton (b. 1776), m. Jonathan Ogden[12]
Grace, Abraham and their family resided at Pembroke, Musquito Cove (name changed to Glen Cove in 1836), Long Island.[13]The 1790 Census for New York indicates that the Walton household household consisted of 3 males over 16 years of age, 5 females and 2 slaves.[14]
The death date for Grace (Williams) Walton is uncertain at this time. She died after 1796 as she is alive after her husband's will was entered into probate in December 1796 and she had been left well provided for by Abraham Walton.[15]
