I am an amateur genealogist from Northern California. I have lived here all my life, although my family is from Pennsylvania and Italy (Mother) & Ohio and The Netherlands/Germany (Father). While I know a lot about my mother's family from word of mouth, my father's side has always been a mystery. Even my mother didn't know much about him except that after my dad died when I was 7, she was "warned" not to come sniffing around. I do know he had at least one previous marriage and 2-3 other children. So after years of digging and matching and networking, I was able to trace quite a bit of his lineage. Just recently I was able to obtain records from the National Archives about my father's Marine Corps record. It has filled in some blanks and also has given me a photo of him at 18 yo. (My 10 year old looks just like him!) Up to that point I had only had pictures of him 35+ .As my late father would now be 89 yo., the children he had before me would be anywhere from 55 to 70 years old. I am losing my window, if I haven't already. Maybe this all-inclusive tree can help me find them.

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles.
It looks like German Roots Project or New Netherland Settlers would be a good fit with the tag you entered. Adding the tags German_Roots and New_Netherland_Settlers will help you get updates about activity for that project.

We're very active on our social sites and we have an excellent blog where you'll find our monthly newsletter as well as tips, interviews with our members and guest posts from others in the genealogy community.
And we're always looking for volunteers to assist in different ways.
I am new to wiki g2g and have used maximum number of messages for today. Im not sure how to reply to our private messages regarding my Grand Aunt Dorothy.
I'm Eowyn, a WikiTree Mentor and Team Member. Our primary vision is to build a collaborative tree with just one profile per person. The farther back in your tree, the more likely you will find duplicate profiles to link into, so it's a good idea to do a search before you create a new profile. Try to add an estimated date and place of birth, at the very least, a country, for each person. This helps in searches. Last but not least, try to source each profile as you go.
Thank you, Gabrielle, for volunteering to help grow our worldwide family tree.
Our Honor Code, G2G message forum, help pages, search features, and many other useful links can be accessed from the menus on the upper right corner of most pages.
VERY IMPORTANT:
The more documents, sources, dates, and locations you provide on the profiles you create, the stronger your branches and our mutual global tree will be. If you don't know the correct date, please estimate using before or after.
Thank you for helping in our mission to build a global tree with only one profile per person.
My name is Gabrielle and I enjoy genealogy research very much. I started tracing my father's line years ago, and my searches have branched out and I have helped many others find their branches. I would love to collaborate with like-minded genealogists and help build a tree where we all finally link up.
3. Our help pages, top right, have all sorts of useful information.
If you would like to contribute, click the volunteer button and leave a comment here on your profile to let our greeters know. You should include a little bit about how you plan to contribute to the tree.
Good luck growing your branches, and thanks for offering to help with our shared tree :)
