Biography

James Wilson of Olivet remained at home until he was united in marriage with Nancy, by Rev. Alex. Donaldson, D. D. In April following Mr. and Mrs. Wilson moved to the farm where they now reside, and which was purchased by his father in 1838. The farm, containing 120 acres, was deeded to Mr. Wilson by his father some time after his marriage. He has at different times since purchased land adjoining, till the farm now contains about 180 acres.

Mr. Wilson has followed farming all of his life except four years, when he was engaged in milling. He owns about 180 acres of good land, situated near Olivet Village, South Bend township.
He is a director of the Apollo Savings Bank, and has held that position for about ten years.

Obituary: ...died of diabetes, at his residence, Olvet, Armstrong co., PA, Sept 16, 1896. He was born at Elizabeth, Allegheny co., PA, Nov 15, 1818, of Scotch-Irish stock, being third in descent from James Wilson, of Licking Creek (now .Adams couuty), one of the first Covenanter elders ordained in America. On the maternal side he was a grandson of Rev. Matt. Henderson, of the "Forks of Yough." His parents emigrated to Armstrong County in 1835, and his father -Hugh M. Wilson- was chiefly instrumental in organizing the congregation of Olivet, where the deceased publicly confessed Christ at the first communion after the organization, Sept. 22, I838. He was ordained an elder in the same congregation Nov. 1856, which office he exercised until his death. He was married in March, 1847, to Nancy Wray, who with four children survives him. He died as he lived, in the full expectation of the resurrection of the just, and his ashes rest among four generations of his kindred in the little graveyard close by the church which he loved even as his own home,..
