Biography

William was born 1813 in Kentucky the son of Nathaniel Wilson and Mary Jacks. He moved to Indiana before 1850. The reason for his move may have been due to debts he owed in Kentucky. [1]

William (age 37, b KY) and Frances Ann (age 23, b KY) were living in Boone County, Indiana in the 1850 census. William's occupation was listed as farmer. [2]

The People's Guide, a business directory for Hendricks County Indiana Eel River Township published in 1874 shows the two brothers, William and Richard M. resided at the same location, (1/2 SW of Jamestown). William had come to Hendricks County in 1851 and Richard in 1862. William was a "mule trader" while Richard was a farmer.[3]

William's wife was named Fanny A. according to the 1860 Boone Co IN census and 1870 census Hendricks County, Indiana. [4]

In the 1870 census (P.O. North Salem, Hendricks Co., IN) William's household is next door to his brother Richard M. Wilson. The occupation of both men is "Farming". William seems to own the farm because he is the one with real estate worth $12,000 while Richard has none.[5]

According to data from the 1880 census it appears the brothers in addition to farming also were in the mule trading business together.

William's wife Fanny had died before 1880 when William M. Willson, age 67, born KY, described as "Farmer" and "Trader" is found living in the household of James M. and Sarah B. Richey. William is not related to the Richeys because he is listed as "other" in the relation to head of household column. Another indication his identification as the William in this profile is correct is the fact he lists his parents as father born Virginia and mother born South Carolina which is correct. [6] It is interesting to note while William remained in Hendricks County, IN in 1880 his brother Richard Wilson had gone on the road as a mule trader and is found in 1880 staying in the household of Ezra Carlile a minister in Scott County, IL. Richard's occupation is "trader" and his age was given as 62, born KY. Not exactly correct but someone else may have provided the information to the census taker.[7] Richard's wife (with her name spelled Sarilda Willson) was still alive and living in Hendricks County, Indiana in the household of their son John W. Willson.[8]

William Wilson was buried in an unknown cemetery in Hendricks Co IN. The dates given are from county burial records: (1813-1889). [9]
