Mehitable "Hitty" of "Hitty" Wing was born about 1786, based on her age at her death from her gravestone.[1] The 1928 history of Livermore gives her first name as Mehitable,[2] but her gravestone and the record of her marriage call her "Hitty" and her marriage intention calll her Hetty. The first child of her husband with his second wife is listed twice in the vital records, once as Hitty Wing Gibbs and once as Mehitable W. Gibbs.[3] Nothing is known of her ancestry; her marriage intention says she was from Readfield, Maine (then in Massachusetts).[4]
Marriage
On 28 May 1808, Miss Hetty Wing of Readfield, Maine, and Mr. Frank Gibbs of Livermore, Maine, (both towns were then in Massachusetts) published at Livermore their intention to marry, [4] and they married there on 28 Aug 1808.[5] There are no known children from this marriage.
Death
Mehitable "Hitty" (Wing) Gibbs died on 13 May 1810, and she is buried at the Wyman Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, where her gravestone gives her age at her death as 24.[1]
